My name’s Michael Hunter, I’m a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and composer/arranger living in Brooklyn. I started learning piano and violin classically when I was young. I was good at it, played in symphonies and won competitions and such, and I considered going to a conservatory after high school but decided I wasn’t really passionate enough about classical music to pursue it professionally. In college I discovered my musical passion through rock ‘n roll (I know, took me awhile…), started teaching myself guitar, bass and drums and began writing songs. Once I left college I began playing in bands in a more serious capacity, branching out from rock ‘n roll to metal, hip hop, punk, swing, prog, pretty much anything I could get my hands on. I moved to NYC in Nov 2011 to take my career to the next level and since then I’ve been making my living as a freelance musician. I’ve composed/performed string arrangements in studios, sat in on drums in metal/punk/industrial bands, played piano in musical improv troupes, and all the while I’ve been trying to keep my own original music going as well. I’m constantly learning and improving, collaborating and creating, and I’m proud to call NYC my home and ever-inspiring muse.
